Brief History of Sunshine Nursery & Primary School, lle-lfe

Sunshine Nursery & Primary School was established in Ile-Ife in March 1995. We began with two children; Sobechi (two years old) and Unoaku Anyadike (7 months old) and after the first year three other children joined, Tomiwa Akinyemi, Philip Ocan, Stella Mabayoje and one teacher Aunty Wumi Togun.

In February 1997, with a population of 54 pupils and 6 teachers it was granted approval to operate as a Nursery School and by May 1999 with a population of 105 children and 12 staff. Sunshine’s status was upgraded to that of a Nursery and Primary School. The Primary school took off with two children: Nkolika Anyadike and Badewa Ajibade. Today we have reached our target population of 200 pupils, 30 teaching staff and 8 non-teaching staff

In the last 19 years, we have graduated 18 sets of Primary 6 pupils, all of whom have won places in highly reputable Secondary Schools and Colleges of their choice across the country. A few of  such schools are Vivian Fowler Memorial College, Lagos, Babington Macaulay, Ijebu-Ode, Olasore International, Iloko-Ijesha,  Christ Ambassador’s College, Ibadan, The Nigerian Defence Academy Zaria,  Queen’s College, Yaba, Louisville Girls High School, Ijebu-Itele, Christ The King Catholic College, Odolewu-Ijebu, Hallmark College, Ondo, Redeemers International  Academy, Ifewara,  various Federal Government Colleges and the most reputable local Secondary Schools such as Ambassadors College, HAMEC and Obafemi Awolowo University International School.

Much to our delight each year since inception our children have excelled in their entrance examinations into these schools and colleges and every year since we began taking entrance examinations, our children have earned us great honour by attaining highflier positions in the top ranks of performance. Once in their various secondary schools our children stand out and are often selected as class captains and every year for the last sixteen years at least one child is selected as the senior prefect of the respective schools they attend. This we believe is a true testimony of Sunshine’s dedication to inspiring, motivating and challenging the whole child.
